“El guapo d’en Narcís” is an ephemeral installation for Girona Temps de Flors that aims to rediscover the spatial qualities of the place, promote cross perspectives, and create a game board based on the aesthetic experience of reflection.
In the lobby of the college of architects of Girona, a large steel table 3 mm thick is installed with a concavity filled with water, which produces a mirror effect reflecting the sky through the skylight, and on it, a reproduction of Caravaggio’s Narcissus. Visitors are asked to interact by generating a small paper daffodil and adding it to the raft-table. In the process, like Narcissus, he and the multiple users of the space are reflected in the water.
“El guapo d’en Narcís, otro, no el gerundense, paseando encuentra una oscura balsa. En ella contempla el reflejo de su rostro y se enamora. Se enamora tanto de la belleza que no es capaz de entender que no es más que una imagen. Y se mira. Se encanta. Se observa tanto que su mundo desaparece y él se ahoga en sí mismo. Queridos visitantes, acérquense a hacer una ofrenda a Narciso. Conózcanlo al mirar la balsa: a él, a ustedes y al cielo de mayo”.
