In the heart of Cerdanya, a landscape shaped by the interaction between humans and nature, Basecamps Cerdanya stands as a testament to balance. Located in Queixans, this space lies in a region where traditional water channeling structures have defined the landscape and enabled harmonious coexistence between agriculture and abundant rainfall.
In contrast to traditional repetitive plots, the proposal introduces an organic design guided by hydrological management strategies: the terrain’s topography and water runoff dictate the distribution of elements. The privacy of each plot is achieved through native plantings that naturally integrate with the landscape.
The campsite reflected the modern dichotomy: one part heavily transformed, with asphalt roads and rigid plots; and another, an untouched forest, barely influenced by human activity. The proposal, inspired by the natural and cultural history of Cerdanya, seeks to unite both realities, transforming the site into a haven where people can reconnect with the environment and its rhythms.
Common areas, such as shared fire pits or meditation zones in the middle of the forest, invite visitors to share meaningful moments in an authentic setting. The new system of pathways, made of compacted earth and designed to respect the original topography, creates routes that seamlessly and sustainably connect the different areas of the campsite. Here, coexistence extends beyond people to include the natural environment that surrounds and defines each experience.
The transformation of the campsite is not only physical, but a commitment to the future. Water management systems that take advantage of bioengineering to prevent erosion and preserve the stability of the terrain. Spaces are designed to be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of users. From rest areas to activity spaces, everything is designed to endure and evolve.
